Honeywell, White TP50WK Energy Star Dehumidifier for Medium Basement & Living Room up to 3000 sq. ft with Anti-Spill Design & Filter Change Alert
The Honeywell TP50WK is a great choice for a basement or large living room as it removes up to 30 pints every 24 hours.
It has an energy star rating as it uses less energy than most other dehumidifiers. This makes it one of the best dehumidifier models on the market because you save power and money.
There’s a smart digital humidistat that senses, measures and activates according to how high the moisture levels are, so that you don’t need to constantly keep note of the humidity yourself. Just switch it on and leave it to do its job!
You can see the room temperature, humidity levels and set your timer on the LED digital display.
When shopping for the best dehumidifier, it’s important to look at the design features. You don’t need to worry about when it’s time to empty the Honeywell dehumidifier- it has an anti-spill design. The unit also lets you know when it’s time to change the filter.

Pohl Schmitt Mini Dehumidifier, 17oz Water Tank, Ultra Quiet – Small Portable Design for Homes, Basements, Bathrooms and Bedrooms – Removes Air Moisture to Prevent Dust Mites, Mold & Mildew
The Pohl Schmitt mini dehumidifier is perfect for using in your bathroom or bedroom. It’s small and portable and does the job well.
It has a 17oz (500ml) water tank which is easy to empty once it is full.
I like that the mini dehumidifier is quiet when it’s running which makes it great to use in the bedroom. The last thing you want when you’re trying to get to sleep is a noisy dehumidifier, so you won’t need to worry about that with this model.
Due to the small size, you won’t want to use this all day long in your bedroom because you will need to empty it quite often due to the small capacity of the water tank. If that’s the case, buy a larger sized dehumidifier.
Pohl Schmitt claims that you can use this dehumidifier in a basement but trust me on this one- you definitely cannot. A basement is large and needs a large dehumidifier with a large tank capacity. This dehumidifier ain’t it.

You can adjust the humidity control of the Ivation depending on how humid the room is, and you’ll be pleased to know that it has whisper quiet operation. This is great if you’re using it in your bedroom as I’m sure you don’t want to be woken by the dehumidifier.

If your basement is really humid at the moment then it’s time for a dehumidifier to remove the moisture and prevent mold and other problems.

This means that the dehumidifier will continuously drain itself without you needing to do a thing. A hose is NOT included with the Tosot dehumidifier but you can buy one yourself.
If you don’t use a hose, then you will need to empty the bucket every day. The Tosot dehumidifier automatically shuts off once the bucket is full.
When setting up the Tosot dehumidifier, you select the humidity level that you want in the room and you’ll see your selection on the control panel. The control panel will also show you the current humidity reading. Once the dehumidifier reaches your desired humidity level, the unit will shut off.

Your home isn’t just somewhere you sleep, but somewhere you want to relax especially on a hot summer’s day.
And there’s nothing more uncomfortable than a humid bedroom or humid home, especially if you live in a tropical area such as in Florida. The extra moisture in the air makes it uncomfortable to sleep, it leaves moisture in your home which can damage your furniture and also make your floor slippery.
The health effects of humidity also can’t be ignored. Mold and bacteria thrive in moist environments, so if you want to prevent issues with your health then it’s a good idea to control the humidity in your home. You can do this in many different ways!
I’ve written this buying guide to the best dehumidifier so that you can choose the best dehumidifier for your needs, whether you want to use one in your bathroom, bedroom, RV or lounge room!
Signs you need a dehumidifier in your home
If you notice any of the following then it might be time to check your humidity levels and purchase the best dehumidifier for the humid room or space.
-Mold often growing on walls and windows
-Condensation on your windows and around the window sills
-Water stains on your ceiling and around paintwork
-Feeling dampness in the air: this is something you notice at higher levels
-Mold and mildew growing in corners of a room
-Walls that feel damp
-Carpet that feels damp when you walk on it
-Floors that feel damp even though you haven’t recently mopped
-Paint on walls or ceiling is peeling
-Furniture feels damp and the timber looks like it is rotting
How do you know which is the best dehumidifier to buy?
The first thing to consider when buying the best dehumidifier is the current humidity level in the space that you want to dehumidify. It’s a good idea to get a digital hygrometer to measure the humidity levels.
The recommended humidity in a space is under 50% during the summer and under 30% in the winter. Outside of these ranges, it can become too humid and not ideal for preventing mold and mildew growth.
What is the best dehumidifier size to buy?
There are different sized dehumidifiers available to buy. How do you know which is the best dehumidifier size to buy?
Consider the size of the room or space that you’re trying to dehumidify. A mini or small dehumidifier is only suitable for a bathroom or small bedroom. A room that’s larger requires a larger dehumidifier.
If you buy the wrong sized dehumidifier you will constantly be emptying the water tank because it will quickly fill. Each dehumidifier has a water tank and once it is full, it needs to be emptied.
Imagine using a small dehumidifier in a large space? You will need to be emptying the water tank most likely more than once per day.
Not only that but you will be pushing the dehumidifier to work harder, which means you will be using more power. This is not the most efficient way to dehumidify a room!
When choosing the best dehumidifier, look for what the dehumidifying capacity is over a 24 hour period. In each of the best dehumidifier models I have reviewed in this guide, I have recommended the best room or space to use the dehumidifier in. Follow this guide so you make the right choice
How do you empty the dehumidifier water tank?
You want to make life easier for yourself when you’re buying a dehumidifier. Another thing to consider is how you need to empty the water tank.
Most dehumidifiers have a water tank that you just remove and empty and then put back in the unit. You will need to do this each time the water tank fills up. The dehumidifier will automatically shut off once the water tank is full.
If you’re using the dehumidifier in a basement or garage, the best dehumidifier would be one that you can use a hose with. You would attach the hose an then have continuous drainage of the dehumidifier. This means that you won’t need to worry about emptying the water tank as this will happen as the dehumidifier is operating and you have your hose attached.
This is a much easier option for a large space that you are dehumidifying and if the space or room has a door that leads to your yard.
Choose the best dehumidifier for your location
A big deciding factor in the type of dehumidifier you buy is your location.
Do you live in a typically humid climate? Is it humid all year round or only during summer and the warmer months?
If you live in a humid climate where it is humid all year round, you will either need to buy a few of the best dehumidifiers or else buy a large one that can be used year-round.
If you live in an area that is only humid during the summer, then you won’t need to worry about buying a dehumidifier that is too powerful.
If you are just buying a dehumidifier to use in your bathroom after you have had a shower, then you will only need the best small dehumidifier rather than something large and bulky.

Benefits of using a dehumidifier
Once you start using the best dehumidifier in your home, you will see the benefits almost immediately and it’s much easier than trying other methods of removing moisture.
The air quality in your home will improve as there will be less moisture in the air and also this removes the problems of high levels of mold and mildew. This isn’t just a problem for basements and bathrooms but can be a problem anywhere in your home.
Your family will sleep better! Having a comfortable room temperature and humidity level is important for a good night’s sleep.
A less humid home means that you’re not getting too sweaty or dealing with unruly hair that doesn’t cope well in humid climates! This is a personal choice and depends on your personal comfort levels. But I’m sure that you will notice the change in the air as soon as you switch your dehumidifier on!
Another great benefit of using a dehumidifier is that your air conditioner won’t need to work as hard. When a room is humid it’s a lot harder to cool it down because there is more moisture in the air.
Once you use the best dehumidifier, you will notice that the drop in moisture makes it easier for your air conditioner to cool the room down. This means a lower power bill for you!
Not having much moisture in the air will also be better for your furniture, floors and walls. A humid home causes paint to peel and wall paper to also peel. The moisture makes the floor damp which is a hazard if you have timber floors or tiles. And for those with carpet- damp carpet is a problem as it can breed bacteria, mold and mildew which isn’t good if you are someone who has respiratory problems like asthma.
Timber furniture can become damp when a room is humid, which can damage the timber. The last thing you want to do is throw out expensive, high-quality timber furniture because the humidity in the air ruined it.
And if you’re worried about a humid bathroom, using a bathroom dehumidifier will prevent mold from growing in your bathroom and your floors and walls from getting wet!
Impact of humidity on your health
So far we’ve covered the uncomfortable and cosmetic issues associated with humidity in your home.
But a far more important consideration is your health.
The Environmental Health Perspectives journal published a study into the impacts of humidity on health particularly respiratory health.
Humidity can cause many health problems such as fatigue, inflammation, chest and nasal congestion.
When humidity contributes to bacteria and mold growth, breathing in mold spores can cause illness and have a negative impact on your health. The spores can aggravate asthma and other breathing problems. It’s really important to keep your home free of mold and bacteria and one way to do this is by using a dehumidifier if your humidity levels are not at a safe and recommended range.
Dust mites are also a secondary issue from having high humidity levels. Dust mites loves a moist environment so if you aren’t using a dehumidifier and you have high levels of moisture in the air, you will most likely have more dust and dust mites.
So buying the best dehumidifier is an investment in not only your comfort but the health of you and your family which should be your top priority!
We’ve also written about a common health myth about dehumidifiers.
How does a dehumidifier work?
Humidifiers work by removing moisture in the air either using a desiccant or compressor approach.
The compressor method means that the dehumidifier removes the moisture in the air by condensing it. The air is condensed and the liquid is drawn out into a water tank.
This process is used with larger dehumidifiers that are used in higher humidity levels. It’s better to use a compressor dehumidifier in your basement or garage.
Desiccant dehumidifiers remove less humidity so they are better to be used in lower humidity places or rooms such as your bedroom or living room.
