What is the best under sink filter?
APEC Under Sink Water Filter (ROES-50)

The Apec reverse osmosis water filter system is one of the best under sink water filters on the market today and is Home Health Living’s “Top Pick”. It is a top rated under sink water filter on Amazon, and has had many positive reviews.
Its 5-stage reverse osmosis filtration process means that the water is purified from many different contaminants, including arsenic, chlorine, lead, heavy metals, viruses and bacteria. It is also one of the few water filters available that filters out fluoride. These types of systems are also referred to as an under sink ro system (ro stands for reverse osmosis).
The filters used are carbon blocks which, unlike inferior GAC filters, absorb more contaminants, making your water purer.
The first filter is a premium quality micro sediment filter to remove rust and dust particles. The second and third filters are premium quality micro extruded carbon blocks that remove odors, tastes, chlorine, volatile organic chemicals and other contaminants.
The 4th filter is a US-made high quality reverse osmosis membrane. This membrane is used to further remove any remaining contaminants that couldn’t be removed by the previous filters. This includes arsenic, lead, fluoride and heavy metals.
The Apec is Home Health Living’s top pick for best under sink water filters because of the high performance of the membrane filter. Other reverse osmosis under sink water filtration system reviews have a similar opinion.
Once the water has been through these filtration processes, it is then stored in the tank, ready for you to drink. Once the water leaves the tank, it passes through one final filtration process. This is the 5th filter, a refining coconut carbon filter, to remove any possible impurities and taste resulting from being in the tank.
The package comes with a high quality chrome faucet that is lead-free, as well as a tank. Tubing is of food grade standard that has been approved by NSF and FDA, while all fittings are leak-free. The system comes with its first set of filters already installed.
The system has been designed to fit inside a standard kitchen cabinet. It has a versatile feed water adapter suited to either a 3/8” or ½” connection without needing any additional components.
Replacement filters are easily available and the filters are easy to change on your own. The first 3 filters should be changed every 6-12 months, the membrane filter changed every 2-3 years while the coconut carbon filter should be changed every 3-5 years.
Apec is manufactured in the U.S.A. by an American company. It has a 1-year guarantee and lifetime technical support available.

The iSpring is another best under counter water filter with a 5 stage filtration process that removes up to 99% of all contaminants, bacteria, viruses and TOC.
The 1st filter is a polypropylene sediment filter held inside transparent housing. This helps you see when the filter is too dirty and requires replacement. The filter removes sand particles, dust and rust. The 2nd filter is a GAC filter, which is granulated activated carbon. This removes unpleasant odors (such as the “rotten egg” odor commonly found with drinking water), tastes, colors and cloudiness. The 3rd filter is a CTO carbon block filter, which stands for “chlorine, taste and odor”.
The 4th filter is a reverse osmosis membrane that further removes any remaining contaminants, as well as fluoride. The 5th filter is a “Total Polishing Inline Carbon” filter which removes any final tastes or odours as the water is being drawn out of the tank.
Extra features are the automatic shut-off valve and the check valve. Both of these functions work together to ensure that once the tank is full of water, it shuts off automatically. There is also a water detector/flood alarm that works like a smoke detector but detects if there is water leaking.
Also included in the package is an EU-style designer faucet made from brushed nickel with a stainless steel look, and a ceramic valve. The tubing is food grade standard and comes in different colors to make it easier for you to install. All the installation hardware is included so that you don’t need to buy anything and can simply install the system.
There is a 1-year guarantee, with spare parts available to purchase if required. A YouTube video is available to help with DIY installation.

Woder 10K-Gen3 Review

Woder 10k Review
The Woder 10k-Gen 3 ultra high capacity direct connect water filtration system is an upgrade of the original Woder 10K Gen 2 under sink filtration system which is a best seller on Amazon.
This is one of the best under the sink water filter models for people that require something very easy and quick to set up. It already comes as a completely assembled kit ready for installation, which takes about five minutes.
Woder filters are built with NSF approved materials and undergo rigorous testing to ensure quality standards are met. The Woder 10K filter is classified as a class 1 premium quality filter which exceeds industry standards ANSI and NSF.
The filter lasts up to 10,000 gallons which is, on average, 3 years of use. The Woder 10K filter has the highest capacity of any similar filter on the market. This makes the Woder filter a more economical choice, as you do not have to replace filters on a regular basis- less filters going to landfill, and more money in your pocket!
The Woder under sink filter removes chlorine, heavy metals (eg. lead), bad tastes and odors as well as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The nature of the filter means that unlike under sink filters that use reverse osmosis membranes, the Woder 10k filter does not remove essential minerals found in drinking water.
As expected with an under sink water filter system, after installation, there is a small reduction in the water flow rate.
The unit has a built-in valve that shuts off the water flow when you are unscrewing the filter to change it. This means no leaks! There is no need to replace the entire system after 3 years, simply purchase a cost-effective replacement filter on Amazon.

The Aquasana 3-stage under sink water filter system contains 3 filters that remove heavy metals such as mercury and lead, cysts (eg. giardia and cryptosporidium) and chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It removes up to 97% of chlorine.
Does Aquasana filter fluoride?
No, Aquasana does not filter fluoride as it doesn’t have a reverse osmosis filter.
However, the design of the filters means that it does not remove any of the essential minerals required for good health. This is why we have chosen the Aquasana as one of the best under the sink water filter products on the market.
The Aquasana under sink filter system meets ANSI and NSF standards. The filters’ capacity is approximately 600 gallons which gives you an estimated life of 6 months.
There is an indicator light and sound that lets you know when it is time to change the filters. The indicator is battery operated (a battery is included in the package). Replacing the filters is very easy, using a “push up and twist” method to both remove and install the filters.
It comes with a dedicated faucet and you can choose whether you would like a faucet made of chrome, brushed nickel or oil rubbed bronze. The flow rate of the water is 0.5GPM. The spout has a height of 7 inches with a spout reach of 4.75 inches.
As the system comes with a dedicated faucet, you will end up with two faucets- your regular faucet (which can still be used for regular tap water), plus the Aquasana faucet that will need to be placed through a separate hole either on your sink or countertop. If you do not have a second hole for the faucet, you will need to drill one.
The package comes with the filters and all connection and installation hardware.
The Aquasana has a 1-year warranty.

Aquasana vs apec
Aquasana is another well-known brand that sells well on Amazon.
If you’re comparing Aquasana vs Apec, then there are a few differences that will be important to you.
Firstly, Aquasana only offers a 2-stage and 3-stage under sink filter. Let’s compare the Aquasana 3-stage under sink filter with the Apec 3-stage under sink filter.
Filtration:
Both of these brands offer a 3-stage filtration and are not reverse osmosis systems, so they cannot remove fluoride. The Aquasana filter lasts around 600 gallons or 6 months before needing to be replaced. The Apec filter lasts over 12 months, which is longer than the Aquasana. Of course, the filter lifespan depends on how much water you use in your home.
Warranty:
Both Apec and Aquasana offer limited 1-year warranties.
Price:
Both brands have similar prices- Apec is slightly cheaper.
Nahla Pure under sink water filter review

The Nahla Pure under sink water filter system is an easy to install, all-in-one water filter. It has a capacity of approximately 10,000 gallons which is equal to around 3 years of use. As only one filter is required, it is a cost effective option.
The activated carbon filter removes unpleasant tastes, odors, chlorine, heavy metals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It does NOT remove fluoride.
What we like about the Nahla Pure under sink filter system is that it does not take up much space at all and unlike reverse osmosis systems, there is no water wastage. The Nahla Pure is one of the best under sink water filter products for people who are renters or move quite frequently. There is no need to install a dedicated faucet. The Nahla Pure filter simply connects to your existing standard cold water line.
The filter system is made in the U.S.A.

The 3M Aqua Pure under sink filtration system uses a two stage carbon filtration process to remove sediments, pesticides, chlorine, lead, cysts, mercury, asbestos and volatile organic compounds.
There is a built-in shut off valve that shuts the system down when it is time to change the filters.
The system comes with a dedicated faucet for you to install, and all required hardware is included, as well as two filters. However, some consumers have complained that the package only includes a ½” adapter when many sinks have 3/8” connections. If this is the case for you, just visit your local hardware store (or Amazon) for an adapter for your sink connection.
Replacement filters can be purchased through Amazon and are easy to install and remove, using a twist-off function.
There is a 10-year limited warranty available.

The CuZn under counter water filter is a great choice for those who don’t want complicated systems with an extra faucet and storage tank. If you want a simple to install filter, the CuZn is the best under the sink filter for you.
The filter has a long 5-year capacity and it also comes with a 5-year warranty. It has a 3 stage filtration process that removes chlorine, lead, mercury, herbicides and pesticides. This filter will not remove fluoride as it isn’t a reverse osmosis filter.
There’s no dedicated faucet required- the filter simply connects directly to your cold water line.
One thing that impressed me about the CuZn UC-200 under sink filter is that it is a bacteriostatic filtration system. The filter isn’t prone to mold and bacteria growth.
The CuZn is suitable to use with municipal water only, and not well water. If you use well water, then you’ll need to find the best under sink filter for well water.

The Culligan US-EZ-4 under the sink water filter is a great choice for those who like an easy to install system- the filter just twists on and twists off. It’s a quick and easy filter to install.
I’ve chosen the premium filtration cartridge as it removes more sediments and chemicals than the other Culligan filters available. It’s a 4 filter system.
The filter has a 500 gallon capacity which is approximately 6 months of use- there is an indicator sticker that tells you when it’s time to replace the filter. Replacement filter cartridges can easily be purchased online via Amazon.

One of the best under sink water filters is the iSpring 6-stage under sink reverse osmosis filter.
I’ve chosen it because it has a reverse osmosis filter that helps remove fluoride, which is something that many people want when shopping for the best under sink water filter.
The iSpring is a water filter and water softener which is great if you use well water. The feed water pressure is between 45 and 70psi.
One of the great things about the iSpring is that it also has a remineralization filter. When you’re using a reverse osmosis filter, it removes almost everything in your drinking water including important minerals and makes the water acidic. The remineralization filter adds these essential minerals back into your drinking water and makes it more alkaline.
The faucet included with the water filter is a European-designed brushed nickel all-metal faucet.
The filter has a 13,000 gallon capacity before the filter cartridge needs to be replaced. This is around 3 years of use.
The included hose can fit either the ½ or 3/8 so will fit any standard sink valve setup.

The Best Under Sink Water Filter Buying Guide
How to choose an under sink water filter
When shopping around for the best under sink water filter system, there are some things to keep in mind before making your final choice. Although the aim of an under sink filter is to provide you with great tasting, filtered water, knowing what else you should look out for will help you make the right purchase.
Water Pressure
Water pressure, or a lack of water pressure, is something that many users of water filters complain about. Whether you’re using a water filter pitcher or under sink water filter, it usually takes some time to pour yourself a glass of filtered water.
With an under sink filter, this is due to the water pressure. Under sink filters vary with their water pressure and if you’re wanting an easy to use system that gives you good water pressure, you’ll need to keep this in mind when researching which filter to buy.
Some filters allow for stronger water pressure however the downside to this is that the water isn’t filtered thoroughly. In order to maximise water filtration, water pressure needs to be weaker so that the water spends more time passing through the filter. It’s a catch-22 situation!
How do you resolve this situation? The best thing to do is consider your current water supply. If your existing water supply has high levels of chlorine, fluoride and other contaminants and removing these are important to you, focus on a filter with a lower water pressure.
If your existing water quality is pretty good and you only need minor filtration, then a filter with higher water pressure would be suitable.
Filter Performance
Before buying any water filter product, I highly recommend buying a water quality testing kit so you can find out exactly what’s in your water. Once you know what contaminants are in your water, you’ll know how much filtration you’ll need.
When researching under sink water filters, make sure that the filter product you’re interested in is effective. Does it remove the contaminants you want removed? Not all filters work the same! Find one that’s efficient and effective enough for your household’s water filter needs.
Installation and Maintenance
There are two options with installation: do it yourself, or hire a professional to do it for you. Hiring someone is an added cost so if you’re budget doesn’t allow for installation, look for an under sink water filter that is easy to install yourself.
If you like the challenge of a DIY project, check out YouTube for some great instructional videos to help you install your new under sink water filter.
If budget isn’t an issue, then installation won’t be a problem for you.
Also consider maintenance requirements. You’ll need to regularly replace the water filter cartridges, which is another expense to consider. Find out what’s involved in changing the filters- this is usually fairly easy for a non-technical person to do. You don’t want to hire a professional to do this for you every time!
Cartridge Longevity
Under sink water filter systems use multiple filters. These filters need to be regularly changed. Within one filter system, you might have up to 5 different filters that need to be changed at different intervals. Some filters need a yearly change, others more frequently.
Manufacturers will recommend how often to change a filter however you may need to change it more or less frequently. How frequently you need to change the filter depends on the quality of your source water. If your existing source water is low in contaminants then you won’t need to change your filters as often as someone with water that’s high in contaminants. The more contaminants in the water, the harder the filter has to work to remove these.
The cost of changing filters can be significant, so make sure you factor this into your overall budget for an under sink water filter. Have a look at how much it costs to purchase a replacement filter. Some filters are better quality than others and even though they may be more expensive, usually it’s because they use better quality components that work better and last longer. Cheaper isn’t always better!
Benefits of using an under the sink water filter
One of the benefits of having an under sink water filter is that it is out of sight, and not taking up valuable counter top space. The filters last longer than those of a water filter pitcher, and there are under sink water filter brands that can filter out fluoride.
Many under sink water filters have a number of filters that can remove many contaminants, viruses and bacteria. The quality of water after filtration is far superior to the water in a water filter pitcher or countertop water filter.
Our list of the best under the sink water filter systems are high quality and are made in the U.S.A.
Purchasing the best under sink reverse osmosis water filter will help you remove even more contaminants than a filter system without reverse osmosis technology.
By using an under sink water filter system, you are helping the environment by not purchasing filtered bottles of water. That’s less plastic going to landfill!
Children, and those who are frail or elderly, may find it difficult to carry or pour water from a water filter pitcher. Having filtered water on tap is much easier for everyone.
Some people purchase an under sink water filter system to use for their aquariums, because the water quality is superior, which is important for healthy fish.
Disadvantages of under sink water filters
Under sink water filters are generally much more expensive to purchase than water filter pitchers.
You also need to consider the cost of replacement filters. Unlike a water filter pitcher that only uses one filter, some under sink water filter systems can use up to 7 different filters. Some of these filters need to be replaced at different intervals, so it can be quite expensive to run an under sink water filter system.
The good news is that some filters do not need to be replaced as often as others. Generally speaking, under sink water filters last longer than water pitcher filters.
Fortunately, there are replacement filter packages which work out to be more cost effective than buying the filters individually.
If you are not a handy person, you may need to factor in the cost of installation by a qualified plumber. Changing the filters is fairly easy for the average person to do.
There is also a special faucet included with the purchase of an under sink water filter system- again, this is something you will need to install yourself (or you can hire a professional). Fortunately, most of the under sink water filter systems come with stylish, high quality faucets.
Users of under the sink water filters often complain that the flow of their tap water is much slower due to the filtration process. Some also complain about the amount of “wasted water” as a result of purification. The performance of your under sink system depends on the water pressure- if source water pressure is too low to begin with, the membrane from a reverse osmosis system cannot function as efficiently. Therefore, the water purity level will not be as great. One way to overcome this problem is to purchase and install a boost pump which increases the water pressure and results in better quality water. This is recommended if your source water pressure is less than 45psi.
Reduced water flow is still not as frustrating as a filter pitcher when you are required to wait for the water to drip through the filter!
If you are concerned about the time it may take to fill a glass of water due to the filtration process, some under sink filters come with a tank. The tank fills itself up with filtered water so that it’s ready for you. One example of a water filter with a tank is the iSpring RCC7.
Why choose an under the sink water filter over a filter pitcher
The amount of filtered water available for you at any one time depends on the size of the water filter pitcher. Using an under sink water filter means that you will have more filtered water available to drink than if you were relying on a pitcher. This is a better choice for families and large households.
Using an under the sink filter system means that you can fill your sink with fresh, filtered water to use for other purposes such as washing the dishes.
Reverse osmosis technology means that you can use an under sink water filter for fluoride removal– this is not possible with the filters used in a water pitcher.
Click here to read more about water filters that remove fluoride.
Replacement filters for under sink water filter systems
An under sink water filter system can use up to 7 different filters and they will need to be replaced on a regular basis. If they are not replaced, then your water will not be filtered.
Since a number of different filters are used, it can become quite expensive over the long run to use an under sink system. Fortunately, not all of the filters need to be replaced at the same time.
Generally, the filters used in the first three stages of the filtration system need to be replaced the most often, usually around every six months. This is because these filters work the hardest and remove many contaminants.
The reverse osmosis membrane only needs replacing every 2-3 years, while the coconut carbon filter only needs replacing every 3-5 years. By the time the water reaches the coconut carbon filter, most of the sediments and contaminants have already been removed, so it doesn’t need to work as hard and can last longer.
How to know when your filter needs to be changed
Some systems have the 1st filter housed in a transparent cartridge so that you can see when the filter is becoming too dirty and requires a replacement.
Other than following the general guidelines that we have included above, you can also use a TDS tester that measures the dissolved solids present in your water. The higher the TDS level, the higher the dissolved solids in your water.
You can measure the TDS level prior to installing an under sink filter system to give you an idea of how clean your water is. Then once you have installed the system, take another reading to check the level of quality of the water after filtration. You can use this reading as a benchmark- over time, once the TDS level increases, then you know it is time to change the filters.
Here is a TDS tester we recommend:
HM Digital TDS-EZ Water Quality TDS Tester, 0-9990 ppm Measurement Range , 1 ppm Resolution, +/- 3% Readout AccuracyOne final word…
Under the sink water filter systems are a great way to have filtered water available on tap for you whenever you need a drink or to make yourself a coffee.
There are different types of under sink filters: from simple one or two step systems with minimal filters used, to more complex systems with up to 7 different filters.
The best one to choose for your home depends on your own needs, your budget and your current water quality. In many towns and cities, the water quality levels are quite good. While other towns and cities may not have as good quality water. It’s a good idea to find out the water quality of your water and use this as a guide to help you decide which filter system to buy.
If your water quality is not very good, then choosing the best under sink reverse osmosis system such as the Apec or iSpring RCC7 would be a good option. A reverse osmosis system is the best water filter for fluoride due to the membrane filter. In our opinion, the Apec is the best reverse osmosis water filter for 2021.
If your water quality is quite good, then a simpler system such as the 3M Aqua-Pure would be suitable. If you are someone who moves house a lot, then a basic system such as the Nahla Pure would be the best choice.
Regardless of which under sink water filtration system you decide to buy, you are making a healthy and environmentally friendly decision.
